Author Sheri Speede joins us to discuss her new novel Kindred Beings: What Seventy-Three Chimpanzees Taught Me About Life, Love, and Connection. Kindred Beings is Speede's powerful story of how she left her thriving veterinary practice in the United States to rescue orphaned chimpanzees in Cameroon, Africa and establish a sanctuary for them. Dr. Speede developed the Sanaga-Yong Chimpanzee Rescue Center to protect chimpanzees from the illegal ape meat trade. Speede's story is about what we can learn from chimpanzees about love and having the courage to follow your passion.
Dr. Speede's mission to protect these defenseless creatures is captured in this video: ida-africa.org/the-promise-video
