The Charles Walker Band is self-described as "a rich blend of roots music that relies heavily on funk and R&B to make you want to move, even if you're in a seat." Although they do not like labels, they would classify themselves as Neo-Soul. The Charles Walker Band evokes energy, spontaneity and laughter wherever they perform, as their passion for every performance fosters excitement in their audiences. Charles Walker, Porsche Carmon, Terence Pettigrew and Ian Roberts perform live on the show.
Charles Walker performed as an improvisational comedian for years which shines as he expertly works the crowd and banters back and forth with Porsche and the audience. Described by "particularly inventive," Charles is well capable of building a melody line, his tenor sax thrusting through the mix powerfully. The band has opened for numerous national acts, including Aaron Nevelle, Robert Cray, and BB King, and has been featured on Fox News, NBC's "Live in the Morning," nationally syndicated "Discover Wisconsin" and was the featured artist on the Blues Revue (2010) and Soul Bag (2007) sampler CDs.
Join the band for a CD release party! It will be November 10th at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts, beginning at 7:30 pm. Charles Walker Band will join forces with Naima from "American Idol" and her band Ras Movement to create a 12-piece band that night with horns and background singers! Tickets are on sale on Ticketmaster, Marcuscenter.org or by phone at 414-273-7121 ex. 210, which is the cheapest option. Tickets by phone are only $23!
