Accessible Cabins
Monday, Oct 22, 2012

There are only seven accessible cabins in Wisconsin's state parks and they are in such high demand that they are booked solid throughout the camping seasons. As a result, reservations have even been limited to four nights. A charter member and past vice-president of the friends group, Jim Schendel, became a paraplegic following a car accident. Jim spent his life working to make life easier for those with disabilities and was very active at Harrington Beach State Park, helping design accessible paths, a bridge and a walkway. He encouraged the friends group to develop a fully accessible park. Unfortunately, Jim passed away before the cabin project began.

The Packer Tailgate Party is on December 2nd at the Belgium Community Center located just west of the park in Belgium (Interstate 43 north to Belgium exit just north of Port Washington). Doors open at 11 am. Brats, hot dogs, hamburgers, pasta and potato salads, chips and beverages will be available. There will be prizes, a silent auction, 50/50 games, strip cards, and more!
