When is a Bribe a Good Idea
I'm one of those parents who tries to negotiate things with my kids or my kids try to wheel and deal with me as I put it. But my 5 year old has this desire to grow his hair long like Clay Matthews and I'm just not in the mood to deal with it. I don't want to see his bangs in his face and with summer and swimming around the corner, I don't think it is a good idea. I have nothing against the Clay Matthews long hair but on a 5 year old the mom is going to have to take on responsiblity and I just don't want to do it. I think his dad secretly likes the idea. I've been pretty open to allowing my kids to express themselves. This is the same kid that got a faux-hawk. So I decided to use a little bribe to see if we could get his hair cut. I asked him if he would get a hair cut if I let him go to Baskin Robbins after the cut. Always the negotiator he told me yes, but it could not be a buzz cut. I asked what I needed to do for a buzz cut and he said Baskin-Robbins two nights in a row. I love him with a buzz cut and I'm considering taking the deal. What do you think about this? As a parent am I making a good decision to negotiate for a hair cut?
